First meeting of 2021 @ St. Vincents
On March 7th 2020, at Tracey’s Hotel in Ennis, Cork Youth Darts were crowned All Ireland inter-county youth champions. Little did we know back then, that it would be 549 days later until we would have the opportunity to get together again.
Last Tuesday evening, at St. Vincents H&F club, there was a fantastic atmosphere as CYD got to meet up for the first time in 18 months. Masks and sanitisers were no barrier to the buzz that filled the air there by youths, managers and adults alike. After all the welcomes & introductions to our old and new superstars, is was down to business as 14 lads toed the oche to participate in a round robin group tournament.
After the group stages, the quarter & semi-finals, the 2 finalists were Craig Bowen and Thomas O’Riordan. In a race to 2, Craig went 1 up, and leaving himself on 32 for a 2 nil win, Thomas checked out an impressive 74 on the bull. In the deciding leg, there were 4 ton-plus scores exchanged with Craig getting a 123, and 180, and Thomas following with 100 & 121.
It was level pegging down to the double. Craig missed 3 darts to check out 44, but finishing on tops with his 3rd dart, it was the debutant that was first to hit the winning double.
Although we were very happy with the attendance, we really missed those that couldn’t make it, and hope to see ye at the next one. We cant wait to catch up with you all.
Cork youth Darts are accredited with the Junior Darts Corporation, and live sessions were also recorded on the night, which was great to see, as these were online for the past few months. CYD chairperson, Elaine, was there to present the grading medals to the lads that earned them.
We all would like to extend our congratulations to Craig Bowen, who qualified to represent Ireland in the JDC world cup in Gibrlatar next November. Craig will also be entered to the JDC international open and the MVG masters.
Our next meeting will be at St. Vincents on Wednesday, 15th Sept. at 6:30.

Cork Youth Darts is the only academy in Cork that you will get the chance to play for your County, and even your Country.
And now, the sky is the limit, where you can get to opportunity to get on a world stage as CYD are now an official Junior Darts Corporation Academy.
